Murder Riddle – 2 Poisoned Drinks 1 Dead Man

poison-riddleTwo men walk into a bar after a hard day’s work at the construction site, they walk into the crowded bar and proceed to order the same drink.

The first man drinks it all down before it touches the table.

The second man sips it slowly, savoring its taste, but by the time he finishes he falls off his bar stool dead.

But both of the drinks were poisoned. Why didn’t the first man die as well?

this is really good…is one man’s medicine another man’s poison?

  • KT. B says:

Nope – both are the exact same poisons

  • Erin says:

It must have something to do with the way the drinks were drank. Does sipping slowly cause some sort of poisonous reaction that would be negated by drinking it quickly? or does it have something to do with the first drink not touching the table?

  • KT. B says:

You are kind of on the right track Eric, but table doesn’t facor in to why one guy lived and one guy died.

  • Alex says:

Okay, so I read your article on the 17 most deadly poisons and in it was Botulinum. It says it can be destroyed by heat, such as cooking. So did one man order the same drink warm and the other one wanted his cold?

  • rats_k says:

was thinking of potassium…being treatment to some, fatal to others. methanol? depends on absorption. it can to formaldehyde in some ppl.
    any underlying medical illness?

  • C.O says:

Thats pretty good but i have figured out the answer. I won’t say though because i want to see how long it takes them to get it.

  • KT. B says:

Thanks for doing the research Alex and knowing some posisons are destroyed by heat. The kind of poison is irrelevant and both drinks were idential and cold.

Rats K – no underlying medical conditions. Both were heathly as a horse

C.O – thanks for not spoiling the fun for the others. When the answer is revealed, you will have to let us know if it is what you were thinking

  • Alex says:

Did one drink have ice in it? Thus blocking the poison in the drink? I’m kind of going out on a limb here…

  • KT. B says:

All I will say Alex is BOTH drinks had ice in them

  • Jodi says:

Like Wesley’s battle of wits with Vizzini in the Princess Bride, one of them obviously spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocaine powder.

  • KT. B says:

Funny, but not even close Jodi :-)

  • lukie says:

ha ha very good, i think iv got it but wont spoil it either all i will say is think about what happens to the drinks over a period of time……

  • KT. B says:

You are right on track lukie – anyone want to take to a stab at the answer yet?

  • Tbore says:

I believe the poison was in the ice, so the man that sipped his slowly died because his ice melted therefore releasing the poison into his drank, whereas the other man just downed his drink not giving the ice time to melt to release the poison.

  • KT. B says:

This was a good riddle – it took people a while to get it, but Tbore has solved the crime. The posion was in the ice. NICE WORK Tbore!!!

Stay tuned – the next riddle will be posted 10/21.

  • Tantei Ellise says:

That crime is almost the same as one of the anime showing,Detective Conan which uses the same method but using ice coffee instead of tha bar drink or whatever it is called…

  • Demy says:

Hmmmmmm Since the first man drank it so quickly, he had enough time to drink the remedy?
